I haven't wanted to post this because I still can't believe it. It's a weird feeling when you wake up the day after your season is over with nothing to do but school.

Last Wednesday, we played OCU in Oklahoma City. Unfortunately, we lost 1-0. It was really sad. I definitely cried, not gonna lie. I didn't cry just because we lost, I cried for my seniors. Abby, Chelsea, and Pearl are not only good friends of mine, but they are also some of the best teammates I ever had. I look up to all of them, and I'm sad that's the way our season ended when they deserved so much more. We put in the work all season, and it's awful how it just ended like that. The whole game was back and forth with us. At half, it was 0-0. Around the 66th minute, they got their goal and held us the rest of the game.

There's nothing left for us to do but start training again for next year. It's a long road until we see the field again, but when we see OCU next year, it's going to be a different story.

Thank you to everyone who supported us this season, especially everyone in the Athletic Department. Also, shout out to Chelsea McMullin, Gianna Piela, and Jordan Beasley for winning awards this season! Proud of you!

Who just beat OBU in the first round of playoffs?

WE DID!!!!

Yesterday proved that we are a team to be worried about. It was the first round of the SAC Conference Tournament. We traveled to OBU in Shawnee. I have never seen this team so excited and pumped for a game before. It was awesome. You could just feel the intensity running through your veins.

The game started, and we came out on fire. Our work rate was high and the effort was there. What sucks is that OBU got 2 goals on us in the first half. They were mistakes that we made, but that didn't stop us. We picked each other up. Melissa Subu got us a goal before half was over. Before second half, we knew we had to pick it up. Jordan Beasley got a header off of Abby Rickner's corner. It was then 2-2! Last time we played OBU, we tied 2-2. We definitely didn't want to go into overtime. With 13 minutes left, Veronica Subu scored! We have a new saying whenever the two Subu sisters score: "They got Subued!" It was awesome.

So now we are in the semis. We play Oklahoma City University at their field at five on Tuesday.

Good luck to the RSU Men's Soccer Team! They play Lubbock Christian on Monday. Go get 'em, boys!!!

The team would like to thank Sara Williams, our Assistant AD for Media Relations, for coming out to watch our game! It means so much that you would take time out of your day to travel to OBU and support us! :)

PLAYOFFS!

I cannot believe that playoffs start tomorrow! It's crazy. I feel like it was just yesterday that I was running by butt off around the track for preseason.

We ended up beating St. Greg's 4-1. It was a tough game. The wind was blowing in different directions. It was hard to keep up. Then we went into a double overtime game against OBU for senior night. We tied 2-2. We really wanted to win for our seniors, but we fought hard for the tie!

So we played John Brown on Tuesday. I still can't believe what happened. The first half was definitely their's. Second half we came back and claimed it. We ended up going into overtime as well. With around 48 seconds left in the second overtime, they scored to win the game. It was shocking. We really thought we held it out, but we made our mistakes that cost us.

So now it's playoff time. We ended up 6-4-1 in conference. That placed us at sixth for the tournament. Tomorrow we play OBU at OBU. It's time to get the win this time! We are excited and ready. If we lose, season is over. We aren't ready for that. Coach says it's all about bringking work rate and effort. That's what we gotta do to win the game!

Congrats to the boys soccer team for beating John Brown in the first round of their playoffs! :)

Coming towards an end

Wow, I can't believe that the season is coming to an end. It feels like we just started!

Fall break was last week. Tuesday we went to Chickasaw to play USAO. It was a crazy game. Last year we lost to them with less than 2 minutes left. We were tied 0-0, and they won off a pk. This year, the same thing happened but in reverse! We came out on top this time! It was nice to get some pay back. It just shows that hard work pays off in the end. Good things happen to good teams. Break started Wednesday. It was so nice just to lay around and not worry about class. I definitely caught up on some much needed sleep. On Friday, MACU came to us. We pulled out a 4-0 win.

We only have three games left in the regular season. Tomorrow we go to Shawnee to play St. Greg's, and then on Saturday OBU comes to Soldier Field for senior night. After those games, we wait for the conference playoff bracket to come out. Playoffs is where we fight for the SAC Champs title and a shot at the NAIA National Tournament. With hard work, I think we can make it there.

Come out Saturday at 5 and 7! See ya there!

Tough Week

Its been a tough week for us girls. We played the top two teams in the conference. Tuesday we went to Bethany, OK to play SNU. Unfortunately, we lost 5-0. It was heartbreaking. There has always been a rivalry between us since the program started. It was a hard loss to take. Then Friday we played OCU here. We lost 3-0. It is our first loss at home. Then the next day we lost 1-0 to Lindenwood University. It wasn't a conference game, but the loss hurt just as bad.

The only thing we can do now is look forward to the next game on Tuesday. We have to fix the problems, and then get that win! We play Oklahoma Christian at 5. The boys are at 7. This week starts the best part of the season. Now we get to play our conference games. We ended last week with a 6-0 win against Southwestern Christian at home Tuesday. Then that Friday we loaded up the bus to Friends University in Wichita, KS. We got another win by 1. Those games are important, but they are more like preparation games. We have been training all season for this. Our conference is full of aggressive and talented teams. The preseason coaches’ poll put us at sixth in the conference. We’re ready to prove them wrong!

The next couple weeks are going to be tough. We play Wayland Baptist and Lubbock Christian at home this week. Then next week we travel to Bethany, OK to play Southern Nazarene. They are definitely are rivals, and we have some unfinished business to take care of! Then we finish off the week with Oklahoma City and Lindenwood(last nonconference game) at home.

Come out and support us! Tomorrow girls are at 5, and boys are at 7. Then on Saturday come out at 1 and 3!!

Shout out to Sara Williams! She came to practice and played World Cup with us a couple weeks ago. On the 6th we played Avila University. It was another hard game for us that sent us into overtime. We came out with a tie, but a win was what we needed. Then three days later, we played ORU at their field. It was definitely a big challenge to play a Divison 1 team at their home field. We fought hard, but we did lose our first game of the season. We might have lost 2-0, but we walked onto the field unafraid. I learned that no matter who the opponent is, we can step on that field and fight til the last whistle is blown.

This past week was awful only because we had no games scheduled. We are in the heart of the season and all of us are just dying to get back on the field. Even though we haven't played a game, we have definitely grown as a team. We started the week with two very hard practices. The sprints and hard drills pulled us together. We supported each other when players felt like they couldn't go anymore or if a player was not performing to her full potential. We continued the week with technicial practices. Thursday, we came out to support the boys in their 6-0 win against Bacone College. The boys are lucky they have fans like us. We sat in the rain and cold for them!

Friday, we established our weekly Friday Game Day. Every Friday when we don't have a game, we play World Cup against each other. We break into teams of three, and the goal of the game is basically to knock the other teams out and be the last one standing. It's a lot of fun. We basicially do it for bragging rights. We played in the rain for an hour just so someone could win the trophy. And no, my team did not win. Do I sound bitter? Oh yeah, I do.

Saturday, we ran the Race for the Cure! It's an annual thing now for our team. It's a great cause. We even got a shoutout from the announcer :)

Tuesday we finally get to step onto Soldier Field! It's Jessica Turner, and I'm taking over this blog for Bailey :)

Soccer season is finally here. It's been a long year of us waiting and training to get back on the field. These past three weeks have been hectic. Preseason was hard, but it was also exciting. Through all the sprints and drills, we grew together as a team. We ended our preseason with a tie against Missouri Southern and a 5-1 win against Cowley County. We have new comers and also some returners. I honestly have never felt so excited for soccer season.

Tuesday was our home season opener against Oklahoma Wesleyan. We came out with a 3-1 win and a great start to the season. My girl Devon Bullard put in two goals, and freshman Jordan Beasley scored her first college goal. One win down, plenty more to come. We are only gonna get better this season if we keep working hard. Tomorrow we travel to Marshall, MO to play Missouri Valley. They are a very good team, so it will be a chance for us to dig deep and rise to the challenge.

Next week on Sept. 6, we play Avila University at home! Girls at 2, boys at 4.
Come out and cheer us on!

Update!

Let's see.. It's been a while since I've written on here. We are now 4-2. We lost our last 2 games in Kansas City. They were both non conference though so we are still in the running for post-season play. We start conference games this Tuesday the 28th at Southern Naz at 5. They beat us last year in the 2nd round of the SAC tournament so we really want to win this one. They probably are one of our biggest rivals. We are both usually about even every year. They beat us, we beat them.. blah blah blah.

This past Saturday we all ran in Race for the Cure! I don't know anyone that cancer hasn't affected on the team so it was really nice to get out there and support everyone. I bet it will be a yearly thing now. Our team is so AWESOME!

2-0!

We are now 2-0!! We beat Friends University Friday 2-0. Pearl scored on a PK and then Chelsea Myers scored a little later in the game. We played alright but we still have lotsss of work to do. Tomorrow night we play Bethel College at 5 at home. Then we have our last home game for a while on Saturday when we play McPherson at 2. After that we have 5 away games. Road trips are alright with the girls but not with the dumb boys. And then 5 of them in a row?!

Anyway, come out and watch us play this week! It was a long summer but we are back and season's here already. We are 1-0. We beat Oklahoma Wesleyan Tuesday night 5-1! It was so fun and a bunch of people scored. Pearl had 2 goals, Lauren had 1, and then 2 freshmen had the last 2, Demi and Sarah. All these freshmen can really play. I think all of them got some playing time in the game and 4 of them started. Nuts!

But I'm really excited for this season. The new girls have already helped so much and we all get along so well. Our next game isn't until the 10th of September so we've got a pretty long break, (that just means more fitness, ughh).

Anyway, the boys play Friday night at 4 at home against Lyon and then Tuesday night at ORU. Should be fun!

Sick..

I've been sick forever it seems like. I've had this cold for at least 2 weeks (some would say longer lol) and I hate it! I think it's going around because everyone's status on facebook is something about being sick. You know what I'm talking about. I mean it would be one thing if my day went on normal but there's been no practicing for me since we got back from spring break. Our coach doesn't like anyone with a cough to be around the rest of the team. He's pretty bad about it. I mean it makes sense to not get everybody else sick but come on, I'm bored!

It's also raining today. Oklahoma is never just not doing anything when it comes to weather. It's always changing. So no practice outside today anyway even if I were allowed to be there. Bummer.. O well, maybe I'll be allowed back tomorrow.

Spring Break!

Spring break was soooo much fun. I went to Orange Beach, Alabama with some of my sisters, my mom and a friend. We hung out on the beach and played some soccer in the sand. It was just a really chill week. I loved it. The ocean water was too cold to get in but it wasn't a big deal. I don't really like the salt water anyway.

We left the beach on Friday afternoon and were planning on staying the night somewhere in LA and finish the drive the next day but that didn't happen. The freak Oklahoma weather changed our plans. Because of the Saturday morning snow storm we wanted to make the 15 hour drive all at once to beat it but that didn't end up happening either. We made it to Dallas and got a hotel. The next morning, 6am to be exact, we woke up to find out the bad weather had already come. It was pouring rain!! So we got in the car and headed back to Oklahoma City (where I'm from). About 2 hours into the drive it started snowing. There were tons of cars that had already spun out and landed in the ditch on the side of the road. We even saw one accident happen. Scarryyyy!!

Anyway, we finally made it home about 2 1/2 hours later and I was still in beach mode. I got out of the car in my t-shirt, shorts and flip flops. Awesome. There's 3 inches of snow on the ground and I'm walking around in flip flops. I didn't bring a single coat home. I definitely didn't plan on the snow.

It's Monday and 55 degrees out. Oklahoma has some crazy weather and that's about all that is crazy about us. The best part about living here is that everywhere else is soo much cooler. That is all!

Update

Today we found out that we have to run a timed 2-mile this up coming Monday. This is NOT good. Girls have to run their 2-miles in 14 minutes and guys are supposed to run theirs in 12 minutes. This isn't such a hard thing to do when in season but off season, although has been the hardest in the 3 years I've been here, isn't like season when it comes to being in that kind of shape. So today after practice I ran an extra 35 minutes and about died. I'm not going to be ready by this Monday. Maybe a month from this Monday ha but not next week.

Besides the new announcement not much else is going on with soccer and us. The other sports seem to be doing really well lately though. Senior night is this weekend for basketball and baseball plays all week. I'll probably go to a couple of them if the weather is nice. Should be fun!

February

February has been a pretty slow month so far. We are still working out a couple times a week and playing futsol. Hopefully after Spring Break we will be able to get outside and start playing on the field. We have a couple games coming up in April. ORU is coming here to play us sometime mid-April and then we will head to their field to play a couple D2 and Juco teams in a friendly one weekend. I'm really looking forward to it.

My youngest sister Tatum is signing her letter of intent Wednesday morning to play soccer at Oral Roberts University in the fall. I'm so proud of her!! She really is the hardest worker I know and she totally deserves the honor of having a really awesome signing from her high school. Luckly, (only a little sarcasm) I am getting to make the 2 1/2 hour drive Tuesday afternoon to be there for it the next morning. YAYY!! ha. Anyway, I'll post dates when I get them of when we play our Spring games!

Inner-Sport Engagement

YAYYYYY!!! It's only two and a half weeks into the semester and I think I have written enough essays to last a lifetime! I'm taking 18 hours (not my favorite schedule) and still practicing with the team for off-season. The only good thing about my schedule is this thing called blended classes. It's new I think, or at least to me. But blended classes are classes that only meet once a week for instruction and the rest is done online. 4 out of 6 of my classes are set up this way. It is really nice because I understand what's going on in class because we get to meet with the professor every week but then I can use the rest of the week to work on my homework when I have free time.

Soccer is taking up a good portion of my week too but it is nothing like season. We practice 3 times a week doing fitness and weight training in the gym. Because everyones schedule is so different on the team, we all work out at different times. I like the way it is set up because I like working out with a smaller group. It seems like we get more stuff done in the amount of time we are together. Once a week we get to go up to the Claremore community center to play futsol and soccer on their carpeted courts. That's when we all get to get together and play.

Other than class, homework and work outs there's not any time for much else. Hopefully everything will calm down and I can quit stressing out. It might actually be a good thing the weather is about to get a little nasty. It will give everyone an excuse to have to stay inside with me!!

Christmas Break

Sorry it's taken me so long to write on here! My Christmas break has been a little crazy. I've seen so much family and old high school friends in the past 2 weeks. It's been really great. I can't believe it's already Christmas! This year has gone by too fast.

Over the break I've gotten to work a little, save up a little spending money for next semester. I work at my dads restaurant when I get a chance. It's a fun job. I get to basically hang out with my tables all day. Everyone is in such a good mood during the holiday season. I'm loving it! Other than working, I've been hanging out and catching up with other friends that I don't get to see very often. Living two and a half hours away from home doesn't seem very far but it really is when you don't get to go home very much, especially during season. When I do go home during semester I want to see my family so that leaves my friends having to wait till Christmas and summer break to catch up. They don't seem to mind though.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and rest of the break!

Season Recap

Soo, season's over. A teammate summarized this year best by saying, "this season has been a team growing and building experience. We have built on old talent with added new talent, and now have a strong foundation for the next few years. The team chemistry on and off the field has allowed character building and a RSU family to enhance the relationships we already have taken from our experiences this year."

I know we had fun this year. It probably has been the most enjoyable soccer season I've ever experienced. I hope next year, also being my final year, will be as special as this year has been.

Well, we lost in the 2nd round of the SAC tournament to SNU. They went on to beat OCU in the finals and won the SAC championship. We ended up 13-7 overall this year and 5-5 in conference. Our record wasn't really good but we achieved a whole lot I think. We beat teams that we didn't think were beatable but then we lost to some teams that we shouldn't have lost to. Overall, it was a fantastic season but expect we will do much better next year! I promise!

Right now we are just working out on our own. After Christmas break we will come back together and start working out for off-season. This year will be our toughest off-season to date (ugh) I'm sure but once we get back into it I don't think it will be that bad.

Anyway, thank you to everyone who supported us this year! We had so much fun playing at home with all the fans we had. We really did have the best and definitely the most number of fans at our games compared to anyone we played all year. I'll keep posting throughout the rest of the semester and update everyone on what has been going on. Happy Thanksgiving!!

Conference Tournament

Man, I'm so proud of my team. We beat the #3 seed, Oklahoma Baptist, in the SAC tournament yesterday 1-0! It was a HUGE upset. They beat us earlier in regular season at home 1-0. Our girls played so well and were smart about how we played. We went up a goal pretty early in the 1st half so we had to defend the rest of the half then another whole 2nd half. Along with defending the entire 2nd half, we had to do it into the wind! And Oklahoma wind isn't just a breeze. We held on though. I was shaking after the game I was so pumped up. Now we are only 2 games away from the national tournament!! We play Southern Nazarene on Tuesday at their place. If we win that game then we'll play the winner of Oklahoma City and John Brown in the finals. They'll be two rough games but I have faith.

Now onto other stuff. I hate that we had to miss homecoming Saturday. They always seem to schedule it RIGHT in the middle of our post-season play. It is kind of frustrating. I wish who ever puts together the schedule would consider the other sports (cough, soccer, cough). It seems like we get the short end of the stick most of the time. Anyway, I'm done venting. In all, I'm just very proud of my girls and we worked really hard to get where we are. If you are in the city Tuesday come watch us play! We'll try and bring home a trophy for everyone!!

Soccer Update!!

Sorry it's been so long. Can you have Senioritis and not be a senior?? I guess they would call it Junioritis in my case. Who knew college would be so hard?

Anyway, season's coming to an end and it's kind of scary. I can't believe my junior year is almost over. I'm going to be a senior here soon!! (ahhhh!!) We have two more games left until playoffs. Tonight we play Southern Nazarene University and Tuesday we play Northwestern University. They are both "must wins" if we want to place well for conference tournament. The first round of playoffs start on Friday the 6th. We don't know who we play yet but who ever it will be it will be a good game for us.

This year has been a little rocky. We play really really good one game and then the next not so well. It's really frustrating. I wish we were as consistent as other teams. That's not really saying much though because all of the teams in our conference have played a little inconsistent at some point. Everyone has a loss to someone else in the conference. It's almost like a big circle. You beat them, they beat you.. blah blah blah. You know?

But everyone should come out tonight for Senior Night! It's the last home game a bunch of our players will have. We play at 5 and the boys at 7. It should be a good game. Hopefully the weather won't be too terrible. I wish I could say that we are 3-0 but we lost last night to Oklahoma Baptist University so we are only 2-1 in conference. We have just come off the biggest win of the season Saturday night against Oklahoma City University to just turn over and get beat by a team, I have to say, was not better than us. We didn't play as well as we should and it was a huge learning experience for everyone (I hope). Anyway, since last night was essentially last night, we can hopefully move on and focus on our next game which is Friday afternoon at 1:00 in Shawnee, OK against St. Gregory's University. You get to pick your schedule before everyone else and travel and do other cool things but there are also a whole lot of responsibilities that go along with it. This past week has been the busiest and probably most stressful week I've had since I've been here. I had 2 tests, 4 papers and 3 games in the course of 7 days. Because of the amount of school work I had in such a small amount of time I did not put as much into each activity as I would have if it weren't so hectic. I just wanted the week to be over. Although I am anxious to find out how I did on my assignments, I'm not real excited to find out how I did compared to how I could have done. Some people might not have as hard of a time adjusting to the time constraints but I definitely am. You have to love the game a whole lot to try and play a sport and excel in school as well.

On a lighter note, we won our games Tuesday and Friday this week against Sterling College and Southwest College. There was a big crowd, probably our biggest of the season, at Friday night's game. Plus we had somewhere between 20 and 25 recruits out watching, including my little sister Tatum! It was so exciting to get to experience this trip with her! I remember my recruiting trip out to RSU. I was so nervous and so excited at the same time! I just hope she had a good time whether or not she decides to come here next year.

Today we played Ottawa University and failed to produce a single goal while letting in quite a few. We lost our first game of the season and losing sucks. Enough of that!

Anyway, we leave tomorrow (another example of being a student-athlete by keeping up with class even while you are on the road and missing class AND getting back at 3am in the morning for class at 9am) for Plainsview, Texas. An 8 hour drive to hopefully up our stats and come home with a win in our first conference game against Wayland Baptist University.

Successful Weekend..for the most part.

We ended up winning both games this weekend in Kansas (yay!) but it was a rough weekend to say the least. And trust me, winning is so fun but it's just not as awesome when you play bad.

I absolutely HATE turf!!! I know you aren't supposed to make any excuses for playing bad but seriously, I hate playing on turf! I don't know if you've ever played a soccer game on it but it really messes with you. Your touch is off and when the ball comes at you, you don't quite know what it's going to do. I blame our bad weekend on it. Coach Larkin will say different but he wasn't out there with us (technically).

Even though we didn't play our best we still got our two wins and that's what we went up there to do. So successfull weekend..for the most part.

Our next home game, if it doesn't get too nasty because of our great Oklahoma weather, is tomorrow the 22nd at 5 and the boys play at 7. Come see us play!!

Heyyyyy

Hey guys!
Bailey Lynn here, this is my first entry, of many, to my mini-blogs that I will be writing throughout the 2009 soccer season. I'll keep you all updated on what's going on with me and the team as we travel, practice, and do work on the soccer field.

Here's just a little bit about me. I'm a junior goal keeper from Oklahoma City and am majoring in Political Science. I'm not exactly sure what I want to do with my degree but I've still got two years to figure it out.

I chose Rogers State because I liked the idea of starting a tradition. I'm one of three girls from the inaugural 2007 soccer team. Our first year we went 20-3, won Conference Tournament and were one win away from making it to Nationals. Successfull huh? Sadly the year ended there. The second year of the Hillcat soccer program wasn't AS successful but most other programs would have loved to have the kind of season we did. We won 13 games and had 4 All-Conference picks. This season we are off to a good start. We are undefeated through our first three games and there are a lot more wins to come.

We are fixing to head out to Kansas for the weekend for our first away games. I'll be sure and keep you guys posted on how we do!
